Cryotherapy

Skincare

Therapist performing mole removal on back with laser treatment.

Cryotherapy is simply freezing unwanted skin lesions. It is most commonly used to remove areas of sun-damaged skin found
predominantly on sun-exposed parts of the body. It is also used to treat viral warts (although not as effective we rather use laser on warts). Cryotherapy is an extremely quick treatment, so you can be in and out of the salon
quickly.

How Does it Work

It emits a fine jet of Nitrous Oxide under high pressure, which allows the clinician to work with millimeter precision. This destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby
destroying the cell. That means there will be no collateral damage to healthy tissue.

What does it treat?

  • Skin Tags - Skin tags are soft, skin-coloured growths on the skin . They are very common and are usually small and harmless.
  • Sun Damage- Also known as Solar Keratosis or Actinic Keratosis. This is the pre cancerous lesion, that often crusts, scabs and then does not heal. If left untreated this may develop into a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).It is important that these lesions are checked by your GP first.
  • Age Spots (Seborrheic Keratosis) Harmless, often waxy like appearance these darker brown spots on various areas on the skin. They also be flat and lighter in appearance.
  • Milia - Milia are very small, raised, pearly-white or yellowish bumps on the skin often seen around the cheeks, nose, eyes and eyelids, forehead and chest. They develop when skin flakes become trapped under the surface of your skin or when keratin builds up and gets trapped. They are harmless but can be unsightly.
  • Cherry Spots - There is no direct cause that has been discovered as to why Cherry Angiomas form, however they are thought to form during the ageing process as they are more prevalent in people as they get older.

How many sessions will i need?

Skin Tags, Milia, Age Spots & Cherry Angioma very occasionally need a second treatment however Verruca and Warts require follow-up treatments. At regular intervals of 2-3 weeks (sometimes up to 6 treatments). Wart and Verruca treatment may not be effective despite the maximum of treatments. As mentioned earlier we usually opt for laser treatment as it is proven more effective for verruca and warts.
